Kylee is a senior in the class of 2023 at Louisville High School and we held her September senior portrait session at the campus of Mount Union and Glamorgan Castle. As soon as Kylee popped out of the car, I could sense her sweet nature, positive energy, and quest for fun. I knew that all of those characteristics would shine through her beautiful portraits and that infectious smile.
Our first order of business is always to review the outfits and our goals for the session. We decided where to use each of her fabulous outfits and how to work in her adorable dog and the lacrosse as a feature.
Kylee's first outfit was such a lovely soft look with the pale pink and white. It provided the perfect opportunity to work in some backlighting and the lovely evening sun cooperated. These are among her favorites, so we certainly started well.
Kylee's friends would describe her as trustworthy, personable, and hard-working. That certainly fits her school activities which include lacrosse, student council and National Honor Society. It also explains why she is so perfect for her job at an ice cream shop!
Kylee and her dog are quite close, as you can see. They were so adorable together and capturing some of these moments was really important to her. This great casual flannel and jeans set the tone for these shots perfectly.
Kylee loves following sports, but her favorites include Ohio State, the Browns, and the Guardians. She likes to shop at Target and her favorite place to vacation is anyplace in South Carolina.
Kylee's third outfit gave her an opportunity to show her more sophisticated side. She looks so pretty in this rich green color and the setting under the arbor created such a gorgeous backdrop. I can never get tired of that smile!
Kylee says that she is going to miss spending time with all of her classmates after graduation. She will be happy to leave behind negativity and stress. She plans to attend Kent State University to major in Chemistry.
Kylee's fourth outfit was this perfect rust dress that had flowy movement in the sleeves and skirt. We decided to move on to Glamorgan Castle to feature this look and it was such a good decision.
Kylee's mom had the brilliant idea to bring one of her favorite portraits of Kylee from when she was little and we used this opportunity to incorporate that. That will always tug at the heart strings.
Incorporating color harmony elevates a portrait and really makes it special. Her rust colored dress was the perfect shade to harmonize with the late season hydrangea blooms. These are among Kylee's favorite portraits, as well.
We made one final move to the Louisville Stadium to capture some lacrosse portraits. We were literally chasing the sun, but thanks to my lighting equipment and some careful camera settings, we were able to use that lovely evening sky as a powerful backdrop.
I am so thankful to Kylee and her family for trusting me with such an important job of creating her senior portraits. I hope that they always serve as a heartwarming reminder of how amazing this young lady is at this time in her life. I can only imagine the bright future that she will make for herself.
What did Kylee have to say about her senior portrait session?
"I followed Laura on Instagram last year and loved the work she did with the class fo 2022 seniors! I liked being able to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. I loved the way Laura found the perfect locations for each outfit! My favorite portraits were my beginning and ending ones. I enjoyed the background of my first location and I loved the maroon dress with the matching flowers! My advice to other seniors is to relax and have fun! Enjoy it while it lasts." -Kylee
